Your Teeth and Age: How to Protect Them

Posted .

Are you prepared to lose your pearly whites as you age? Have you been told that your teeth will simply weaken as you grow older? Fortunately, there are several things you can actually do to keep your pearly whites strong.

In reality, common habits can have a negative impact on your teeth. Some common culprits include chewing on pencils, ice, pens, and on your nails. Aside from potentially cracking your teeth, any of these problems could also wear down your enamel or the protective layer of your pearly whites. Once this happens, you’ll be more vulnerable to problems like tooth decay and gum disease.

Similarly, you probably understand that decay can wear down your tooth’s enamel. Of course, you should try to avoid tooth decay by keeping up on your brushing and flossing, but there is another dental problem called dry mouth that can lead to similar issues. If you find that you have dry mouth, your mouth won’t produce as much saliva as it should, which can also leave you more susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay. If you seem to feel thirsty constantly, we suggest setting up an appointment with us.
